Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to present the importance of quality labels in ensuring food safety, with a particular focus on the role of certification in shaping consumer confidence and supporting sustainable and responsible food production.
Design/methodology/approach: This study adopted an exploratory, descriptive, and explanatory perspective. The following research methods were used: analysis of literature sources, examination of secondary documents, and analysis of legal and industrial regulations.
Findings/conclusions: Quality marks guarantee the quality of a product, ensuring that the product has the characteristics specified in the application, and meets the specified requirements. Quality labels play an important role in food safety and quality assurance systems by promoting transparency in the supply chain, enabling informed consumer choices, and raising standards for food production.
Research limitations: The limitation of this study is the presentation of selected quality labels used most frequently in the food sector, mainly in Poland.
Practical implications: The results provide practical information and guidance for food chain actors, including consumers and food producers, on the specifics of quality labels and the selected elements of their certification.
Originality/value: The cognitive value of the work relates to identifying the significant role of certification in ensuring consumer confidence in quality labels and food system operators, and in supporting sustainable food production.
